Authorities in Waxahachie, Texas, report that a local mother is facing two counts of capital murder after allegedly shooting and killing her two sons early Thursday morning. Forty-two-year-old Colleen Nichole Lemmon, a resident of Waxahachie, was taken into custody and booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center. Her booking followed medical treatment at a local hospital for injuries described as non-life-threatening, according to information from jail records.
The incident prompted a response from Ellis County Sheriff’s Office deputies, who were dispatched to a home in the 900 block of Big Sky Drive in Waxahachie. The initial call, received around 4:13 a.m. Thursday, reported an unknown emergency at the residence. Upon their arrival and entry into the home, deputies discovered two male victims, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the victims was identified by authorities as 21-year-old Christopher Scott Pitre of Waxahachie. Mr. Pitre was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second victim, a 15-year-old boy, was found in critical condition. Emergency personnel transported the teenager to a local hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries and died. The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office has chosen to withhold the identity of the younger victim at this time.
Following the discovery, detectives with the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office commenced an investigation into the shootings. Through the course of their work, which involved recovering and corroborating evidence, detectives developed probable cause. This evidence led them to conclude that Colleen Nichole Lemmon was responsible for shooting both of her sons, as stated by the sheriff’s office.
The victims’ father has been officially notified of the tragic deaths of his two sons. Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman released a statement addressing the incident. Sheriff Norman conveyed his "deepest sympathies" to the victims’ father, other family members, and all loved ones affected by what he described as a tragic event. He added that those involved "will remain in our prayers during this difficult time," indicating the gravity of the situation for the community.
Jail records from the Wayne McCollum Detention Center indicate the formal charges against Ms. Lemmon, specifying two counts of capital murder. Her legal proceedings are underway, with her bond status currently pending an arraignment. The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office continues its work on this case as further details emerge and the judicial process unfolds in Waxahachie.
