Junct'n Square Pizza, a long-standing Grand Junction eatery, has introduced a vibrant new mural at its recently relocated restaurant on Rood Avenue. The colorful artwork, situated prominently in the outdoor café at 626 Rood Avenue, was completed by local artist Taylor Castro and is now available for both customers and downtown visitors to enjoy. This new visual feature aims to enhance the dining experience at the pizzeria and contribute to the local downtown aesthetic.

Work on the mural commenced in August of this year and took approximately two months to finish, making it a brand-new addition for the pizzeria’s patrons. The detailed piece skillfully combines elements of an Italian town square with recognizable Western Colorado scenery, notably including a glimpse of the Denver skyline. This unique artistic blend offers a distinctive visual experience that local residents and visitors can appreciate, adding a new point of interest to the Rood Avenue area.

The genesis of the mural project was a Facebook giveaway, which local artist Taylor Castro organized as a way to promote her new painting business. Junct'n Square Pizza was the fortunate winner of this contest, providing Castro with a significant opportunity to showcase her artistic talent in a highly visible public setting. According to Castro, who spoke with KJCT, her primary intention behind creating the mural was to cultivate a welcoming atmosphere for customers, allowing them to feel as though they had been transported to a charming Italian town square. The finished artwork, therefore, serves not just as decoration but as a deliberate element designed to shape the customer experience.

Junct'n Square Pizza has been a fixture in the Grand Valley's culinary landscape since its establishment in 1977. For many years, it was located at 119 N. 7th Street before its recent move. Ernie Abeyta and his family assumed ownership of the restaurant in December of 2025, subsequently overseeing its relocation to the current 626 Rood Avenue address. The transition to the new location has brought several updates and improvements beyond the new mural. These include the restoration of a 50-year-old stained-glass window, which now complements the new outdoor café and the recently unveiled artwork. Amidst these changes and new surroundings, patrons can continue to enjoy the restaurant's signature deep-dish pizza, maintaining a connection to its long history in the community. The new mural thus joins other significant features that define Junct'n Square Pizza’s current presence on Rood Avenue.
