Several popular cannabis vape products sold in Grand Junction and Palisade dispensaries were voluntarily recalled on Friday, Sept. 25, after state officials determined they were contaminated with methylene chloride, a toxic chemical and carcinogen. The recall was announced in a joint health and safety advisory from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR).
According to the advisory, the contaminated products, branded as Craft by Colorado manufacturer Staycon LLC, were sold between March 27 and Sept. 25. The recall impacts multiple batches of nearly 50 products.
"The CDPHE and DOR deem it a threat to public health and safety when ingredients used in the manufacture of Regulated Marijuana are found to contain methylene chloride," the advisory stated, noting that the included production batches were found to have been made with an ingredient containing the chemical.
Consumers in Grand Junction and Palisade who purchased cannabis vapes, also known as dab carts or dab pens, are advised to check their products. The affected vapes were sold at some point at least nine Grand Junction dispensaries and one in Palisade. These include:
* Native Roots Grand Junction – 683 Horizon Dr., Unit 110 * The Grand Junction Greenery – 762 Horizon Dr. * The Green Horizon – 739 Horizon Dr., Unit B * Lucky Me Dispensary – 2648 Patterson Road, Unit C
Additionally, Palisade’s Happy Camper, located at 420 Wine Valley Road, was also listed in the advisory.
To identify potentially contaminated products, individuals who shopped at any of the impacted retailers should check the label for manufacturer license numbers 404R-00170 and 404-00489. The advisory also specified that contaminated products bear a particular production batch number. A comprehensive list of more than 100 batch numbers, affecting nearly 20 strains such as Green Skunk, Super Lemon Haze, Fresh Squeeze, Maui Wowie, Diesel Dawg, and Blueberry Bubble, is available via information provided by the state agencies.
As of the advisory's publishing, the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division had not received any Adverse Health Event reports related to the contaminated products. However, due to potential consumer health risks, the Division encourages consumers to promptly report any adverse health events and to check their labels to confirm if they possess affected marijuana. Individuals who believe they are experiencing adverse health effects from consuming the recalled product are urged to seek immediate medical attention and to report the event to the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division.
