The Starbucks coffee shop located at 2601 Dos Rios Drive in Grand Junction has permanently closed. A notice posted on the store's door informed customers that the company made the decision to close this location during the last week of September.

The closure affects Grand Junction residents who frequented the Dos Rios location, directing them to other Starbucks stores in the area. The company's notice on the door acknowledged, "We know this may be hard to hear," and thanked customers for the community built there. Starbucks also stated it is working to support its employees, whom the company refers to as "partners," through this transition. The notice did not provide a specific reason for the Dos Rios store's closure or state its final day of business.

This Grand Junction closure is part of a larger company initiative, with the Dos Rios store identified by Denver TV station Colorado 9 News as one of seven Colorado locations affected by nationwide closures. Starbucks Chief Operating Officer Mike Grams announced on September 24 that the company planned to close approximately 250 coffeehouses across North America. Grams indicated these closures target stores where Starbucks could not consistently deliver its desired customer and employee experience or where the company did not see a path to acceptable financial performance. Starbucks has not specified which of these reasons applied to the Dos Rios location. The company previously stated it would offer affected employees transfers to other locations where possible, or severance support if alternative placements could not be found.

The closure also casts a local spotlight on the broader Dos Rios development. The city of Grand Junction had financed infrastructure for the Dos Rios project with the expectation that the debt would be largely repaid through tax revenue generated as the property developed. However, the Dos Rios development has built out more slowly than the city initially anticipated. Grand Junction remains responsible for this infrastructure debt. According to city budget information previously reported, the city expects to pay approximately $1.03 million in Dos Rios development debt service in 2027. The departure of a retail anchor like Starbucks marks a noticeable change in the commercial landscape of the developing area.
