Grand Valley Transit is reaching out to riders and Mesa County residents for feedback on a pair of proposed service-hour reductions slated to take effect in early 2027, as The Business Times reported.

The local transit agency is considering the cutbacks in response to ongoing budget constraints that affect its operating schedule. Transit officials are currently evaluating two distinct proposals that would alter when buses begin running on local routes across the Grand Valley.

Under Proposal 1, Grand Valley Transit would eliminate the first hour of service on weekdays only. This change would take effect beginning in January 2027 and would impact morning commuters relying on the earliest weekday routes.

Under Proposal 2, the agency would eliminate the first hour of service on all service days, including weekends. Like the first option, this broader reduction in operating hours would begin in January 2027.

To ensure community members have an opportunity to weigh in before any final decisions are made, Grand Valley Transit has opened a public comment period that will remain open through Nov. 21. Residents, commuters, and transit riders can submit their input through several official channels.

In-person feedback can be submitted using comment cards dropped into designated comment boxes at three key transit facilities: the Downtown transfer facility, the West Transfer facility, and the Clifton Transfer facility.

Members of the public can also submit written comments by emailing [email protected] or by mailing physical letters to PO Box 20,000-5093, Grand Junction, Colorado, 81502. Additionally, those who prefer to leave spoken feedback can call 970-683-4339 to leave a recorded message.

For residents wishing to speak directly to transit officials and decision-makers, a public comment hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 12. The hearing will take place from 04:30-6 p.m. at 525 S. Sixth St. in Grand Junction.

Following the close of the public comment period on Nov. 21, transit staff will compile the input received from the community. A formal staff report detailing the proposed service reductions and summarizing public feedback will be presented to the Grand Valley Regional Transportation Committee for potential approval.

That presentation and vote are scheduled to occur during the committee's next regular meeting on Dec. 7. Additional public comment will also be taken during the Dec. 7 meeting before the committee takes formal action on the proposed schedule changes.
