Local high school volleyball teams picked up significant victories Tuesday, with the Palisade Bulldogs defeating the Fruita Monument Wildcats and the Grand Junction Tigers sweeping the Central Warriors. These wins are critical as the teams position themselves in league standings with the regular season drawing to a close.

At Palisade, the Bulldogs hosted the Fruita Monument Wildcats in a cross-team 'pink out' event, which successfully raised money for the Aspen Fund. The Bulldogs swept the Wildcats in three sets, showcasing strong play throughout the match.

Palisade's Darcy Imer initiated the scoring, finding room on the court for a kill, marking the first points of the match. Imer continued to be a key offensive force, concluding the match with a team-high nine kills. Violet Welker matched Imer's offensive output, also recording nine kills for the Bulldogs. Welker’s final kill secured match point for Palisade.

The Bulldogs established an early lead in the first set, moving ahead 6-2. They maintained their intensity, bolstered by strong serving. The tandem of Lizzie Snover and Tiana Padilla contributed significantly with a combined total of seven aces during the match, keeping pressure on the Wildcats.

Fruita Monument, led by captain Kambrie Payne, showed resilience. Payne recorded a kill as the Wildcats worked to narrow the gap and briefly managed to take the lead within the set. However, Fruita Monument could not consistently hold off the Palisade offense. The first set ultimately went to Palisade by a narrow margin of 25-24, clinched by a crucial block from Kailey Riskey.

This victory improves Palisade's overall record to 13-2 and their Southwestern League play record to 5-1. The Bulldogs are set to play Montrose on the road later this week before a significant Southwestern League matchup against Durango. Durango currently holds the top spot in the league standings, having previously defeated Palisade.

Meanwhile, in Grand Junction, the Grand Junction High School Tigers secured a dominant win over the Central Warriors in a crosstown matchup. Playing at home, the Tigers swept Central in three sets. Sienna Ludlam was a standout player for the Tigers, leading her team with 13 kills, contributing substantially to their decisive 3-0 victory.

Both wins contribute to the momentum of the Palisade and Grand Junction teams as they head into the final games of their seasons, with league championships and playoff berths on the line.
