Grand Junction residents will soon have expanded access to physical therapy, rehabilitation, and wellness services with the opening of the Intermountain Health Matchett Park Clinic.
The new clinic is set to open its doors on Monday, Sept. 28, and is conveniently located inside the newly constructed Grand Junction Community Recreation Center at 2836 Recreation Way. This integration aims to connect healthcare and wellness resources in a single, accessible location for locals.
The Matchett Park Clinic will offer a range of services, including physical therapy, rehabilitation, and primary care. Specifically, residents can access aquatic therapy and orthopedic-related rehabilitation services, along with general physical therapy tailored to various needs. Bryan Johnson, Intermountain Health Western Colorado market president, stated that the clinic is designed to allow patients to continue their recovery and fitness journey within a community recreation setting. Johnson added that this initiative reflects Intermountain Health's vision for a healthier community, providing people with the resources and support necessary to live their best lives.
Within the physical therapy and rehabilitation offerings, therapists will concentrate on several key areas. These include supporting recovery after surgery, aiding in injury rehabilitation, managing chronic pain, improving strength and mobility, and helping individuals return to their everyday activities with confidence. Tom O’Donnell, manager of Rehab Services for Intermountain Health, emphasized the importance of physical activity in recovery, stating, "Movement is medicine." O’Donnell noted that the partnership with the Community Recreation Center creates a natural bridge between physical therapy and lifelong wellness, allowing patients to transition into active, healthy lifestyles with confidence and support. He further explained that after completing their therapy, patients will have the option to continue exercising and building strength using the recreation center’s facilities or a gym of their choice.
The primary care services available at the clinic will focus on wellness rather than addressing acute patient needs. Residents can schedule appointments for wellness exams, sports physicals, and annual vaccinations. This approach supports proactive health management and preventative care for individuals and families across the Grand Valley.
As part of this collaborative effort with the soon-to-open recreation center, Intermountain Health St. Mary’s Regional Hospital will also provide additional community benefits. The hospital plans to offer free wellness classes and educational programs. These programs are designed to help Grand Junction residents stay active, prevent injuries, and make informed decisions about their health, further strengthening the connection between clinical care and community well-being.
